Project Overview Image

My Server

By far my most time-consuming project. My server was originally built in 2023 out of spare computer parts that I had laying around. At first, it ran without a case, using parts from abandoned computers (ranging from around 2000 to 2010)...

How I Got Into Server Hosting

When i was quite young, I was already invested into computers since the age of 6 thanks to my sister. At around 10 years old, i got my hands on a really old laptop that my dad used to use. It ran windows XP but i quickly installed ubuntu onto it. I used it to host Minecraft servers for me and my friends to avoid paying hosting fees and some really basic locally available websites.

What It Does Now

Nowdays, my setup runs alot of popular open source selfhost-able software, such as Nextcloud, Samba, Plex and many game servers. (This website is hosted it too). These tools are amazingly useful for me, my family and friends who can negate needing to pay to large companies for services that cost these companies nearly nothing to run. The more people who are able to host their own services, the better!
